Biblical archaeology is a fascinating and dynamic field of study as well as a major area of controversy between those who accept the historicity of the Bible and skeptics (“biblical minimalists”) who dismiss the biblical narratives as mostly legendary and mythological.

In “Recent Discoveries and Controversies in Biblical Archaeology,” Ted Wright addresses issues such as, “What is the value, and what are the limitations, of using archaeology for biblical scholarship?” and “When did the biblical Exodus occur, and is there archaeological evidence for the Exodus and the conquest of Canaan?”

In addition, he discusses his recent excavations at Khirbet el-Maqatir in Israel, which many believe to be the Canaanite stronghold of Ai mentioned in Joshua 7-8 and the site where the most significant archaeological artifact of 2013 was discovered.
